Sciatic Pain Treated by Marine City Chiropractor

Sciatic pain can range anywhere between a mild, dull ache, to a debilitating unbearable pain requiring an immediate appointment.

Pain originates in the spine and radiates down the back of the leg, buttocks, hip, or lower extremities. Sciatic pain typically affects only one side of the body.

The pain associated with it can be mild, severe, radiating or sharp. In severe cases, it may cause leg numbness or pins and needles. Also common is a burning sensation, foot numbness, limping or muscle weakness. Other more serious signs and symptoms can accompany sciatic pain. That’s why it is important to seek the advice of your Doctor/Chiropractor as soon as possible.

Causes of Sciatic Pain

Sciatic pain is a symptom of a problem and not the problem itself. As such, it has many potential causes. Treatment for sciatic largely depends on what is causing the pain.

Common causes of sciatic pain include the following:

  • dysfunction of the sacroiliac and lumbar spine known as subluxation
  • a protrusion or herniation of a disc
  • a narrowing of the canal that houses the spinal cord known as spinal stenosis
  • a progressive disease that dehydrates the discs and deteriorates the vertebrae known as degenerative disc disease
  • pregnancy
  • injuries such strains & sprains that cause swelling in the surrounding tissues, increasing pressure on the sciatic nerve

Spinal Disc Decompression Therapy

Spinal Disc Decompression can be effective in relieving the pain associated with bulging or herniated discs, degenerative discs, sciatica, spinal stenosis and even failed back surgery syndrome.

Home Remedies

Stretching: Not just any stretch!  The Single Knee Pull is a very safe stretch to do without running the risk of further aggravating the condition.

Ice: The application of ice for 20 minutes at a time several times a day, preferably after doing the Single Knee Pull. The ice should be placed in the lowest part of the back even if the majority of pain might be in the buttock and/or leg.

Prevention

In general, regular exercise and building a strong core will help in maintaining good posture while sitting and standing which may help prevent any future flare up.

Regular chiropractic care to maintain and influence joint mobility along with the home remedies are very effective.
